Class Information

Creative Dance

A pre-ballet and tap class designed for three and four year olds. Students explore the joy of movement by using props and storytelling. This class is an introduction to spatial awareness, movement progressions, and basic ballet principles, terms and positons. Rhythms are explored through tap dancing as they learn basic patterns and steps.

Ballet/Tap 1

This is a 45-minute class designed for 5-6 yr. olds. This level begins to focus more on ballet technique, and the application of that technique to the individual dancer. The learning of ballet steps in combinations, broadens the dancer’s vocabulary. Some creative movement is added to enhance the learning experience. New tap steps added to longer combinations further rounds out the dancers training.

Ballet/Tap 2

This level meets weekly for 1 hour. This class is designed for 7-9 years of age who have had a year of training and are ready to focus on a broader use of terminology and sharpen their technical skills. Older, beginning students use this class as the starting point for their dance education. The use of turn-out is stressed more at this level than previous levels and students are expected to execute lengthier combinations. Tap steps are more complex and the speed at which they are performed are faster.

Ballet/Tap 3

The students in Level 3 begin to understand the translation of basic ballet terminology. Learning the meanings of these French terms, further enhances the students’ knowledge of ballet. This Level makes greater use of crossed positions in traveling combinations and steps become more complex. The tap vocabulary becomes broader at this level and the dancer applies principles which become universal in the dance world.

Ballet/Tap 4

Level 4 meets for 1 hour with the option of adding an additional weekly class. They are quizzed on the terms that comprise the ballet vocabulary.  Compound steps of jumps and turns are added to their repertoire and students are expected to demonstrate the use of effective technique in all movement. Tap elements are enhanced with more complex rhythms at this level.

Ballet 5

The dancers in level 5 meet twice a week and have the option of adding additional classes throughout the week. The emphasis is a theoretical understanding of classical ballet. This understanding is balanced with the practical progressions of teaching new exercises, steps, principals and aesthetics.

Ballet 6

This class meets for two or more classes per week and is designed for dancers who wish to focus on the next level of training; pre-pointe and beginning pointe. Students focus on the various aspects of pointe work, such as eligibility requirements, construction, and history. Dancers are evaluated on an individual basis for pointe shoe readiness. Age, strength and knowledge are factors that affect the candidates elegibility for pointe work.

Ballet 7

First year dancing on pointe to prepare for advanced ballet

Advanced Ballet

Advanced Ballet is designed for students who approach their dance training seriously. Students must attend a minimum of three classes a week. The dancers cross train in Pilates and yoga. The students study principles and definitions of ballet, dance history and anatomy for dancers. Students’ aspirations vary at this level but all benefit from the self-discipline and confidence they achieve.

Adult Ballet

A great ballet class for the young adult to the young at heart. This is a one hour and fifteen-minute class designed for the student to learn, refresh and recharge as they progress through basic barre work to center work.

Pilates

A class designed to improve core strength and flexibility through the use of a variety of tools, e.g. mats, bands, and weights.
